I'm Jenna Miller...

... and you are listening to The Brightstar 100.1 FM KYFM Bartlesville...

As you might have guessed, I made the decision to fill in for Magnolia in her Jolk Talk in the afternoon hours. So when I have the days were I practice and she teaches me more, I will let you know and you can tune in to http://www.bartlesvilleradio.com/ and click on the Listen Now KYFM-Your Favorite Music in the top right corner. It will be just like having me there with you, except you can just exit out of the listen live box when you get tired of me!

(Note: I will try to post a short note on the days that I do my practice Jock Talks to let you know for all of those interested. Plus, you could just listen for some good music!)

This week was eventful. I managed to get sick woohoo! Nasty colds! But it went away quick because Zicam is so awesome (Note: Zicam did not pay me to say that, nor did they give me a free sample and no Rush Limbaugh did not convince me to take it or say that!)!! Now to the rest of the busy week!

As always I continued to update the Obits, help with the Sunrise Reporter, continued to update the web bios, and many other wonderful duties! Besides the usual, we had the annual KWON Night at the Ballpark promotion event. Anyone gets to come in and get in for free, we hand them some cool freebees and then a ticket that could be the winning one! The entire game, the radio station gives away stuff from our station, money and from businesses who advertise through us!

The other OK Mozart event that we are involved in was on the next night. This year was supposed to be at Woolaroc which is Frank Phillips Ranch (pretty cool might I add- http://www.woolaroc.org/ ), but due to the rain it was moved to the community center. We handed out the programs sponsored by us and just continued to put our faces out there to promote the radio station.

This summer I will be using Macromedia Contribute to update anything on our website. So while I used this my first summer and know how to do most on the program, I am continuing to learn lots! One thing I learned, was how to make a picture clickable to enlarge it!

Other than this, I started to gather information from all the churches in the surrounding area and will be contacting them over the next week! More to come on this...

Now that you know this, you should also know that my 2 year wedding anniversary is on Monday, June 21st. This means that I will be taking an extra long weekend! We are going to Branson, MO, will be hanging out on the lake, seeing some shows, and just having fun!

.... This is Jenna Miller, signing off for the afternoon, hope you have a wonderful evening, see you tomorrow, I will leave you with "Live Like Were Dying" by Chris Allen....

I Am Famous, Well Sort Of

Another full week of work has flown by! There were many things that happened, but one of the biggest was the opening night of OK Mozart in the Bartlesville Johnstone Park. Here we spent time handing out FREE, I repeat FREE t-shirts to the first 500 guests to arrive. Being the main sponsors on the shirt that were used to promote OK Mozart, this was a great way to get peoples attention and to let them know to listen in to our stations. Also, my supervisor was the emcee for the event so it has an even greater impact on the audience.

Last week I also recorded two more commercials and a little snippet for a political radio commercial. Now my family thinks I am famous. Now I can say that I have recorded 2- 60 sec. commercials, 1- 30 sec. commercials, and 2- phrase entries into other commercials. I now know how to record my own commercial and cut it down to size... if I had to, that is. I prefer to play dumb and have Magnolia help me again.

As usually I completed all of my weekly/daily tasks, one being the obituaries online. I also started updating the meet the staff page and will continue doing that until it is done. Soon I will start to put together sales portfolios for the sales people at the station. This will be a collection of sales items and promotions we offer to our clients who are wanting to have a commercial or ad anywhere on our computers, remotes, Sunrise Reporter, or on the air.

This past week, I also began gathering many of the future political candidates and entering those into our computer in order to send them a letter. This letter will let them know of packages for political advertisement, and we are interested in them and their business.

Now that I have completed another week here at Bartlesville Radio, I will have completed even more hours.

To Jock or Not to Jock

Each week seems to be getting busier and busier, which means I have plenty to do. Last weeks duties consisted of odds and ends office duties, put together more of our Dad’s Days promotion boxes, and I finished mailing out all of the trade request letters. I also busied myself with preparation for the auction that is in the end of July.
Our “Night at the Ballpark” promotions event is coming up on June 15th. I edited the letter to our sponsors and prepared those for our salesmen to sign. I was able to make up new Sunrise Reporter ad for a client this week and will be printed for several weeks. I helped with the Sunrise Reporter Community announcements and Radio Reminders, updated the obituaries online, and helped fill out the dog-gone reports.
With Father’s Day coming up we have started to run promotions on our station, the Sunrise Reporter, and with our Dad’s give-a-way boxes. I had the privilege of being part of the new Dad’s Day promo commercial. My part consisted of saying “He’s My Hero.” Because of the need for different voices to be heard on the radio, I will more than likely be used for other commercials.
The lady that I work with the most is leaving on maternity leave mid-July and will be back after the first week of August. One thing she does at the station is her jock talk on KYFM 100.1 FM The Bright Star. The staff here are wanting me to take that over while she is gone. Last week, I started learning how to record jock talk and how you work the system. But needless to say I am still unsure whether I would be able to do it and do it well. The question is whether “to Jock or not to Jock?”
So far I have been learning more about promotions in radio. Really when you think about what it takes to keep a radio station running, much of it is promotion. You have to continually come up with new ways to get the people to listen to your stations.
